The storefront yeshiva needed space. Its reputation attracted college-age and married kollel students from far and wide. Three blocks away, a rundown corner property offered an ideal possibility to expand. On May 22, hundreds gathered in Woodmere to break ground on the Yeshiva Gedolah’s future home, as prominent rabbinic leaders and elected officials spoke of its potential.

Dr. Neustein provides us with a fascinating insight in her editorial [Training rabbis to identify abuse, Aug. 26] on dealing with sexual abuses in the Jewish community. As meritorious as it may be to seek counsel from a local rabbi about potential sexual abuses, this may still fall short of solving specific problems, and may even turn out to be unintentionally counterproductive.

The storm-battered Long Beach Medical Center, which was slated to reopen its doors this week, is now eyeing a mid- to late-April opening.
The 162-bed hospital has remained closed as it undergoes repairs, after 10 feet of water damaged the facility’s basement area, which housed not only its electrical, heating and mechanical systems but also its pharmacy, central supply and purchasing departments as well as a family care center.
