The Jewish Star is a 22-year-old independent newspaper and website committed to high professional standards, serving diverse Modern Orthodox communities in Metropolitan New York (Long Island, Queens, Riverdale, Westchester, and Manhattan’s Upper West Side and Upper East Side).
The Jewish Star is part of the Richner Communications family, a 100-employee family-owned company that is a leader in digital marketing and in-person events. Richner publishes the Pulitzer Prize-winning Riverdale Press and dozens of community newspapers, websites and shopping guides on Long Island, and maintains its own printing operation, with offices in Garden City and Riverdale.
Cover community events, civic meetings, school news, local personalities, and a range of Jewish issues.
Reporting and writing experience (preferably news coverage) is required. An understanding of Jewish issues is a plus.
Position can be full-time, part-time or freelance. Full-time includes salary (starting at $34,000 to $38,000), paid holidays (including Jewish holidays), time off, medical and 401(k).

Our new editor will be responsible for expanding local news coverage, recruiting and managing staff and freelance contributors, and editing and enhaning material from The Star’s wire services — all while maintaining the highest Jewish and journalistic standards.
