A trio of local seventh graders wrote about their families and won recognition for their stories of kindness, poetry, and survival. The HAFTR team sumbitted their works to the Jewish Heritage Essay Contest, run by Torah Atlanta, a Jewish outreach organization. This year’s contest attracted 20 schools from around the country, with one from South Africa. more
The commemoration of Yom Hashoah, the official day of remembrance of the holocaust is marked with numerous lectures and films. The HAFTR high school in Cedarhurst is marking the day with the production of Irena’s Vow, a play written by Dan Gordon on the real-life Irena Gut Opdyke, a Polish Catholic housekeeper who rescued 13 Jews during the Second World War. more
Four HAFTR High School students were awarded medals for their research at the Long Island Math Fair held at Hofstra University on March 4. The students, Hillel Friedman, Gabrielle Lovett, Wade Miller, and Rebecca Slochowsky, will compete for gold medals at the Final Round of the Long Island Math Fair, which will be held on April 29. more
