Teen plotted massacre at Jewish-owned mall

An 18-year-old Minnesota man allegedly plotted an ISIS-inspired attack on the Mall of America because its owners are Jewish, federal prosecutors say.

Triple Five Group, controlled by the Jewish Ghermezian family, owns American Dream Meadowlands and the West Edmonton Mall as well as the Mall of America.

Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud was arrested Oct. 6 after allegedly buying an AK-47-style rifle, four 30-round magazines and about 200 rounds of ammunition from an undercover FBI agent for $600. He allegedly planned to attack the Bloomington mall on Oct. 24 and was arrested at gunpoint after leaving a vehicle with the weapons.

Court documents say Mohamud discussed killing as many as 60 people, attacking a nightclub and carrying out Christmas attacks at the mall or a nearby amusement park. He also allegedly distributed terrorist propaganda and recorded an ISIS pledge of allegiance.

Mohamud faces a federal charge of acquiring a firearm and ammunition intended for use in a felony or federal terrorism crime.
