Shabbat clash at Trump bash

Posted

The White House celebration of a Jewish-inspired “national Sabbath,” proclaimed by President Donald Trump, is ironically scheduled during Shabbat itself. Jewish invitees told JNS the timing makes attendance religiously problematic, calling it a “sad oversight” from an administration usually praised for accommodating observant Jews. The event is set for this Saturday, May 16. Rabbi Steven Burg, CEO of Aish, had praised Trump’s Sabbath initiative as a powerful antidote to online antisemitism, saying a break from phones and social media could help ease anti-Jewish hatred.
