It was the happiest of birthday parties — the 75th diamond jubilee for the modern state of Israel, the Jewish national homeland whose Jewish roots go back more than 3,000 years. Sunday’s hours-long Celebrate Israel Parade along Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue drew an estimated 40,000 marchers and 100,000 spectators.
The day began with Met Council’s see and be seen Legislative Breakfast. Scores of political leaders were among 350 people in attendance, saluting both Israel and Met Council’s leadership in feeding more than 325,000 New Yorkers annually.
