Brooklyn Rabbi Simcha Weinstein, a disability rights advocate, was honored as Family/Caregiver Advocate of the Year at New York’s annual “What’s Great in Our State” event in Albany.
He received the award from state Office of Mental Health Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan and Deputy Commissioner Bob Moon.Rabbi Weinstein serves on the NYS Council on Developmental Disabilities through an appointment by Gov. Kathy Hochul and has been nominated to the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council.
Through trainings, peer leadership work and his “Dadvocating Podcast,” Rabbi Weinstein pushes for families to help shape disability policy.
“I’ve been the dad in crisis,” he said.
