Pulitzer fury over Gaza photo

Posted

A New York Times contributor won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for a Gaza image that misrepresented a child’s condition. The haunting photo — prominently displayed on the Times website and at the top of a Sunday print edition (above) shows a severely underweight Palestinian boy. The caption said the boy had been “born healthy,” when in fact he was suffering from cerebral palsy. After backlash, the Times issued a correction — but photographer Saher Alghorra still received journalism’s top honor. Critics blasted the award, saying the image fueled misleading claims about mass starvation in Gaza.
