Cedarhurst - Chabad of the Five Towns is hosting several events this September. Hebrew School begins on Sunday, September 7 from 9:30 a.m. until noon. A class for women given by Mrs. Chaya Franklin will be held on Monday, September 8 at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, September 14 a Sofer-Scribe will be in residence from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for Mezuzahs and Tefillin to be checked. Monday, September 15 will be Chessed Night for children in grades three to six from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. All events will take place at Chabad, 74 Maple Avenue in Cedarhurst. Cedarhurst - On Monday, September 8, the JCC of the Greater Five Towns will be launching two programs. The JCC welcomes adults with disabilities to hear inspirational speaker, Judy Talit from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The fee is $5. Pre-registration is required. The JCC will also begin the Fall Arts & Leisure classes, which includes Yoga, Kosher Culinary Institute and Conversational Hebrew Classes. The JCC is located at 207 Grove Avenue in Cedarhurst. Oceanside - The Friedberg JCC is hosting a lecture given by Professor Brian Rose of Fordham University about "The Golden Age of Television: What made the 1950s so Special for American TV?" on Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. There is a $5 optional donation. Cedarhurst - The first fall meeting of the JCC Book Club will be on Thursday, September 11 at 10 a.m., featuring a review of "The Man in the White Sharkskin Suit" by Leon Lagnado. Additionally, at this time, the next two books for the November 6 and December 11 meetings will be selected. The book club fee for all three meetings is $75. Plainview - There will be a community health chat about "Living with Arthritis" with Donna Goldstein, PTA on Thursday, September 11. Oceanside - The Friedberg JCC will host the first of three Adult Connections Club meeting on Thursday, September 11 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. featuring a performance by opera star Rinaldo Toglia. Wine and cheese will be served. Thursday, September 18 will be a lecture on "New York on Film." Join Phil Harwood as he takes you on a tour of the great metropolis we know as New York. Refreshments will be served. Thursday, September 25 will be a lecture about "Life on the International Space Station" with Tom Gwyne, VP for programming at the Cradle of Aviation, discussing a history of the U.S. Space program, including the challenges astronauts face on long duration space missions. Lawrence - EndTheMadness announces its fourth annual Lawrence Shabbaton, September 12-13, Parshat Ki Tetzeh, at Congregation Beth Sholom, for singles aged 22-30. The cost is $35 per person. Our hosts look forward to having us join them for meals in a natural, relaxed setting for a truly enjoyable Shabbat. As with our previous successful Shabbatons, attendees will be joining their host families for both Shabbat dinner and Shabbat lunch in groups of six (three men & three women). On Shabbat afternoon there will be a scheduled activity (TBA), followed by Seuda Shlishit at the shul and a Melave Malka event. West Hempstead - The JCC of West Hempstead will host a Klezmer concert on Motzaei Shabbos, September 13, at 8:30 p.m., featuring Margot Leverett and The Klezmer Mountain Boys. Advanced ticket sale prices are $18 and group sales are $15 per ticket for 10 or more tickets purchased by August 31. East Rockaway - The National Council of Jewish Women, Peninsula section, will host a program meeting on Tuesday, September 23, featuring John Stossel, investigative reporter and host of 20/20, the first guest speaker in a series. Cedarhurst - The JCC of the Greater Five Towns offers a variety of Hebrew classes. The Conversational Hebrew Intermediate day class will meet Mondays beginning September 8, from 10:30 to 11:45 am. The Conversational Hebrew Beginner day class will meet Mondays beginning September 8, from 11:50 to 1:05 pm. The Learn How to Read Hebrew day class will meet Mondays beginning September 8, from 1:10 to 2:25 pm. The Conversational Hebrew Beginner night class will meet Tuesdays beginning September 9, from 7:30 to 8:45 pm. The Conversational Hebrew Intermediate night class will meet Tuesdays beginning September 9, from 7:30 to 8:45 pm. The Learn How to Read Hebrew night class will meet Mondays beginning September 8, from 7:30 to 8:45 pm. Each class meets 12 times and costs $200.

Cedarhurst -The JCC of the Greater Five Towns will be hosting several cooking classes this September: Foods of Tishre on Wednesday, September 10 at 10 am; Healthy Eating and Cooking on Tuesday, September 16 at 10 am; Untraditional Holiday Cakes and Cookies on Wednesday, September 17 at 7 pm; Jewish New Year Breads and Dessert on Wednesday, September 24 at 10 am. Glen Cove - The Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County is looking to expand their Speakers' Bureau and needs volunteers to accompany survivors to speaking engagements, introduce speakers and provide information about the Center to audiences. Hewlett - The Hewlett House offers free ongoing cancer support groups and classes. The yoga and stress reduction group meets on Mondays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. The breast cancer support group for those undergoing treatment meets on Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and on Wednesdays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. The knitting circle meets on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The writer's roundtable meets on Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Cedarhurst - Every Tuesday, the JCC of the Greater Five Towns offers a social day program called "Remember When" from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Sons of Israel in Woodmere. This program is especially designed for memory enhancement and socialization. The cost includes a full range of therapeutic activities, morning beverage, dessert, and a kosher lunch. Round-trip door-to-door handicapped accessible transportation is available on a limited basis. Registration is limited to ensure maximum benefits to each participant. Cedarhurst - Every Tuesday, the JCC of the Greater Five Towns hosts a Parkinson's Support Group. The purpose of this group is to bring together Parkinsonians, spouses and their families in order to help them better understand the nature of the condition, gain confidence and join in community activities. Woodmere - The JCC of the Greater Five Towns hosts the Come Alive Program at Sons of Israel in Woodmere. This program provides an opportunity for homebound older adults to participate in social, recreational and intellectual activities. Kosher lunch will be provided and door-to-door transportation is available on a limited basis. This program runs on a summer schedule.
