Kaufman, Feldhamer in District 15; budgets pass in Districts 14 and 15

An unofficial tally of votes cast in the Lawrence School District 15 school board election held Tuesday gives Abel Feldhamer a decisive victory over his write-in

challenger, John Kinder. The count released shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Wednesday shows Feldhamer with 3,612 votes to Kinder's 2,380, awarding him the seat being vacated by Michael Hatten.

Incumbent Uri Kaufman held his seat in a challenge by Barry Ringelheim by a much closer margin of just 135 votes. Kaufman had 3,558 to Ringelheim's 3,423.

District 15's proposed budget met with overwhelming voter approval for a second year in a row, after being voted down four years running. The unofficial tally on the budget was 4,078 voting yes; 1,095 voting no.

The budget for the Peninsula Public Library passed as well, with 4,016 votes in favor and just 882 votes against.

In the Hewlett-Woodmere schools, District 14, Jill Stern, Stephen B. Witt and Marcy Goldberg were all re-elected to the Board of Education, according to the district's website.

The proposed budget, listed on the ballot as proposition 1, passed by a vote of 1,928 to 1,234.

The Long Range Building Improvement Fund III, on the ballot as proposition 2, also passed with a vote of 1,970 to 1,098.
