Guidelines for submitting stories and photos about your school

We are excited to publish your school's news — including accomplishments by students and staff, events and programs.

To ensure a smooth submission process, please follow these guidelines when sending us stories and photos for publication.

General Guidelines:

1) Send your material as early as possible (the deadline is Monday 11 am, but send your material whenever it's ready).

2) Email to Schools@TheJewishStar.com

4) Your email address or subject line should reference the name of your school. The subject line should [also] include 1-to-3 words indicating what your story is about (for example, "Purim," "MS graduation," "New Torah dedication").

5) Include your name and cell phone number in your email..

Story Submissions:

1) Include the 4-Ws of a good news story: Who, What, Where, When.

2) Submit your story as a Word-compatible attachment or as plain text in the body of your email.

3) When someone is named in your story, use their full first and last names. (The Jewish Star uses full names in addition to — not in place of — honorifics such as "Dr." or "Rabbi.")

4) Byline: If your article was written by a student, we would like to give the student credit. Put By ___ at the top of the article and indicate "student" or "sophomore" or "Editor, [Name] Newspaper," etc.

Photo Submissions:

1) Send high-res (large) photos only. Each photo must be a JPG or PNG and not embedded in a Word document. [TIP: If your photo was taken on a phone, download "original size" or "large size."] Do not compress your email — send as actual or large size. If sending a link to photos residing online (such as in Google or Dropbox), do not lock the files.

2) Captions: Include a brief description for each photo, identifying people from left to right when applicable (using full first and last names with correct spelling and titles). Identifying students is optional but preferable; please do so if their names are available and your school permits their release.

3) Photo credit: If you'd like us to credit the photographer, add this to the caption: Photo by [Name]

Note that all submissions may be edited for clarity, space, and to conform to The Jewish Star's style. Should a significant error appear in our print editon, let us know so we can correct it for our online edition. Send correction to: NBluth@TheJewishStar with Correction in the subject line.
