Hewlett’s menorah on ice

Chabad of Hewlett held its annual Chanukah on Ice celebration at Grant Park ice skating rink on Dec. 3. Children and adults ice skated, played dreidel, decorated and ate donuts along with latkes and hot soup. They watched an ice sculptor carve a five foot menorah from a block of ice that was then lit by County Legislator Francis Becker (R-Lynbrook). Chanukah celebrates the victory of the Jews over the Greek-Assyrians in the second century BCE.
