The siren went off at HAFTR Lower School to mark Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s day of remembrance. Each year, students in grades 3 through 5 learn about a historical event that recalls the brave chayalim who died al kiddush Hashem, as well as victims of terror.

This year’s assembly, facilitated by the lashon and music teachers, recalled the 1976 raid at Entebbe and Israel’s heroic effort to free the hostages. Students highlighted the miraculous rescue under Lt. Cl. Yonatan Netanyahu, brother of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Fifth graders sang the famous song, El Eretz Tzvi by Al-Ygon Roz and Dubi Zeltzer, as well as Heyeh Li Chaver, Heyeh Li Ach, by Yoram Taharlev and Yair Rosenblum.

The program culminated in the recitation of tefilot, candlelighting, and the singing of the HaTikvah and Ani Ma’amin.
