For 19th year, North Shore students read gantzeh megillah

Twenty-five North Shore Hebrew Academy middle schoolers will chant Megillat Esther for their schoolmates, faculty and families, on Purim day, next Tuesday.

Over 19 years, 325 NSHA students have been instructed by Great Necker Dr. Paul Brody to read the megillah at synagogues, hospitals, nursing homes, and private homes for those unable to attend public readings.

Brody first leined the megilla in 1973. Despite great peril, he chanted it at the Great Synagogue in Leningrad in 1985 while on a mission for Soviet Jewry (the shul’s gabbaim were actually members of the KGB).
