I must admit I’m a bit envious of my kids. My friends say they would love to live their children’s lives. We are a fortunate generation in so many ways and thankfully our kids reap the benefits with the ability to study what and where they wish. more
I took a break from Holocaust books for one about shtetl life in the Pale of Settlement where Cossacks reigned. Next on my list is a book about Herod, Rome and the Jews. more
My friend Jerry wants to slow down July… and August, too. Summer is going by way too fast for him. I agree 100%, not just about summer, but about time in general. When I was a kid I used to thoughtlessly wish time away. more

I celebrated the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, with 14,000 people. The Times Square Alliance advertised “mind over madness yoga: anyone can find tranquility on top of a mountain; can you find it in the middle of Times Square?” Yoga classes were offered from 7 am till 7 pm outdoors in the epicenter of our hectic city. Certified yoga instructors were requested as volunteer “spotters” and would receive a free new yoga outfit to wear and keep. “Free” is a hook that attracts me, so I joined up for that, too. more
Our house is full of stuff we collect. Our home is not yet material for a show about hoarders, but things do continue to accumulate. The culprits are books, photos, seashells, curios, art projects, cool bags, newspaper clippings, magazines, emails, hamsas, spices, teas, chocolates, etc. more
I’ve never cared much about cars; I am happy if they get me where I want to go and I don’t have to worry about the details. I’m amazed by people who can identify the makes and models whizzing by. My husband swoons over the E-type Jag, but in reality our choices have always been purely functional. I admit to a penchant for red, but otherwise pick cars for purpose and price and have stuck with each one until its duty was done. more
I’ve always had an open door policy for our kids’ friends (at least the ones we like!) but lately our front entrance has become a revolving door. Our boys were home for the Shavuot weekend, bringing our family back to its number of five. They trudged in with their bags of clothes, dirty and clean comingling. They ate the food I prepared, slept in their old beds, interacted nicely with their sister and livened up our lunch and dinner conversations. more
When we got married I moved from Brooklyn to Queens to live close to the hospital where my husband interned. After our first child was born we moved back to Brooklyn to be closer to my family. more
