Outside of Orthodoxy, Shavuot is one of the lesser-known Jewish holidays.
In an essay titled “Thoughts on Shavuot” from his book, “Angels for Shabbat,” Rabbi Marc Angel, director of the Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals states quite eloquently:
“Shavuot is the festival on which we recall the Revelation at Mount Sinai. It is also a good time to plan for a hypothetical second gathering of Israelites at Sinai – and to think carefully how we can envision such an event as an opportunity to bring us all together.

As some people know, (and the “some” mainly consisting of my wife and children), I have become slightly obsessed with a new workout called Spinning. So much so, that I have recently completed the certification needed for becoming a licensed Spinning instructor and I now teach several classes at the gyms in our neighborhood. Spinning entails a series of exercises on a stationary bike meant to simulate a cycling ride in order to maintain proper form and training during the off hours of cycling. Focus, endurance, musicality and even spirituality come into play while engaging in Spin.

On Friday morning, JFK International Airport hosted the arrival of the Shuttle Enterprise on its final journey. The Enterprise was flown from Washington, DC to New York in preparation for its installation on the deck of the USS Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum in July. Amongst the many dignitaries and VIPs invited to welcome the shuttle to New York, was a group of students from Yeshiva Ketana of Long Island.
