The Hebrew Academy of Nassau County (HANC) won the Metropolitan Yeshiva High School Basketball League (MYHSBL) Varsity Basketball Championship, defeating the Yeshivah of Flatbush, 54-42, at Lawrence High School on Sunday in front of 2,000 fans.

The Hurricanes’ winning effort was led by Benjamin Ritholtz with 21 points, Daniel Kirshblum with 9 points and 11 assists, Michael Hurtes with 9 points and Seth Hochhauser with 13 rebounds. The HANC team was coached by Elliot Steinmetz and Assistant Coach Richie Hochhauser.

The North Shore Hebrew Academy girls varsity beat Ramaz, 51-46, to capture their own championship during last Sunday’s series. In the JV match-ups the amazing HAFTR Lady Hawks successfully defended their title and preserved their perfect season, undefeated 13 times, with a 36-26 win over the Kushner Cobras, who had also been undefeated, thus far. The boys junior varsity final was won by Heschel, narrowly defeating Flatbush, 37-35.
