Labor Day bake sale aids scholarships for yeshivas

For the fifth consecutive year, the Five Towns-Far Rockaway community will hold a bake sale before Rosh Hashana to raise money for yeshiva tuition for Jewish children who cannot afford it.

The Jewish Education Program of Long Island event will be held on Labor Day, Sept. 2, and on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 11 am to 9 pm, at the Biderman home, 130 Rand Place in Lawrence.

Community members bake cakes, cookies and challot and donate their wares for sale to finance the yeshiva scholarship fund.

Public school students who attend JEP’s Camp Nageela leave motivated by the positive Jewish experience to adopt a more Torah observant lifestyle and often seek to transfer to day schools but cannot afford the tuition. This bake sale seeks to close that gap. More than $35,000 has been raised in the past from these bake sales.
