Hopeful Netanyahu pitches ‘truth to power’ at the UN

Prime Minister Netanyahu told the 69th United National General Assembly on Monday that Hamas and the Islamic State are “branches of the same poisonous tree,” both bent on world domination through terror.

He said that the world’s recognition of this reality — and the common cause Arab states are finding with Israel — may set the stage for peace among Israel and its neighbors.

“Many have long assumed that an Israeli-Palestinian peace can help facilitate a broader rapprochement between Israel and the Arab world, but these days, I think it may work the other way around,” he said.

Comparing the threat posed by the Islamic State to that of a nuclear Iran, Netanyahu said that “it’s one thing to confront militant Islamists on pickup trucks, armed with Kalashnikov rifles. It’s another thing to confront militant Islamists armed with weapons of mass destruction.”

Saying that he would continue to speak “truth to power” in defense of the Jewish nation, Netanyahu quoted the prophet Isaiah, “For the sake of Zion, I will not be silent. For the sake of Jerusalem, I will not be still until her justice shines bright and her salvation glows like a flaming torch.”
