HAFTR wins LI math honors

Four Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway HS students were awarded medals for outstanding research at the final round of the Long Island Math Fair on May 2, 2014 at Hofstra University. Samantha Lish captured a gold medal and Matthew Goldstein captured a silver medal. In addition, Elizabeth Berger and Maxwell Lent captured bronze medals.

Samantha researched the use of fractal geometry in medicine, and Matthew did research on traffic patterns. Elizabeth investigated the cardinality of numbers and Maxwell researched recursion relationships in triangular numbers.

All four students worked with their mentor, Mr. Neil Bernstein, mathematics department chairman at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway High School.
