Founder in 5 Towns to tout worldwide Shabbos Project

The founder of Shabbos Project will speak at four Five Towns shuls this Shabbos, building excitement for the coming worldwide event.

The project’s goal: Involve as many Jews — of all ages and stages of religiosity — in keeping one Shabbos together, so that the Shabbos celebrated over the weekend of Parshas Noach, Oct. 23–25, will be one to remember.

The event is the brainchild of Rabbi Dr. Warren Goldstein, chief rabbi of South Africa, who envisions a unity of mind and spirit among klal Yisroel spanning “170 cities, 11 time zones, 25 hours.”

Rabbi Yaakov Trump of Lawrence-Cedarhurst and a native of South Africa, is spearheading events in the Five Towns area.

This weekend, Rabbi Goldstein will—

•Speak Friday night at maariv at the Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst, 8 Spruce St., Cedarhurst.

•Deliver a Shabbos morning drasha at Young Israel of Woodmere, 859 Peninsula Blvd., Woodmere.

•Participate in a pre-mincha shiur for men and women at 5:15 pm at the White Shul, 728 Empire Ave., Far Rockaway.

•Speak at the Shalosh Seudos at Congregation Beth Shalom, 390 Broadway, Lawrence.

One of a growing list planned of Five Towns events surrounding the Oct. 23–25 weekend is a challah bake on Thursday evening, Oct. 22, at the Sephardic Temple in Woodmere, which is expected to attact 1,000 women. It’s reported that at least 14 local shuls and their rabbaim are already on board.
