Commemorating Yom Hashoah

HAFTR students gathered to commemorate Yom Hashoah. Fourth and fifth graders listened to Ms. Joy Hammer, principal, speak of her experience visiting concentration camps and her reaction when she encountered Holocaust deniers. Fifth grade students performed Patricia Polacco’s The Butterfly. HAFTR parent, Mrs. Tahra Mastour, told the story of her grandmother, a Holocaust survivor. Mrs. Mastour and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kerman, and the Mastour children lit candles. HAFTR Middle School commemorated the day with literary readings, psalms and a history of the day; the choir sang as a background to images of the concentration camps. Menahel Rabbi Kupchik led the reciting of Kayl Maleh Rachamim.
