Cedarhurst’s back in biz! Sidewalk sale in on

Posted

Cedarhurst is putting to rest any doubt that it’s fully open for business.

Following the lifting of Covid restrictions on Long Island, the village and its business improvement district will host their annual Summer Sidewalk Sale next Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday (July 21, 22, 23 and 25).

And they’ll be putting icing on the cake in Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park on Sunday, July 25, where they’ll be an art festival from 11 am to 5 pm.
Organizers expect tens of thousands to flock to Central Avenue and other village streets, where over 75 stores and restaurants will participate, according to Sharona Hoffman, executive director of the Cedarhurst Business Improvement District.

“The sidewalk sale and art show are events that can bring a large crowd out,” said Cedarhurst Deputy Mayor Ari Brown.

“These events have usually been very popular, and we get to meet people who come from different towns across Long Island and some who reside in different states.”

“If certain stores are struggling in sales, the sidewalk sale will help those businesses get back on track,” Brown predicted.

The fun won’t end on Sunday, Hoffman promised.

On Wednesday, July 28, the Village of Cedarhurst and the Cedarhursrt BID will host “Comedy in the Park,” featuring Laura High, Joe Devito, Steve Marshall and Kenny Gluck.

The free comedy show will begin at 8 pm, with a variety of for-sale kosher dinner options available beginning at 7 pm. Food will be supplied by Mike’s Burgers, Wok Tov, Stop Chop & Roll, and Graze.
Hoffman said she’s adding new events geared towards children both next week and later in the summer and in the fall.

“Kids and other participants can win in a judged contest, there is a cake decorating contest, and then there is an art contest [during the art festival].” The goal is to “bring in a lot more events for kids, and for the community to keep things local, and to help our local vendors,” she said.

Hoffman, who is owner of the Make it Too arts and crafts store at 86 Cedarhurst Ave. and has helped organize the event for years, said the Summer Sidewalk Sale is a way for businesses in the village to generate more revenue during what is generally a quiet season.

“July is the slowest time for any retail, online or in store,” Hoffman said. “We create this annual sale so everyone is out on the sidewalk. It helps the local retailers push out their old merchandise from the spring and summer and gears them up for their fall and holiday seasons” while offering shoppers great values.
