A new talent to take note of: Rabbi Moshe Walter

Posted

He holds a distinguished pulpit in Silver Spring just outside our nation’s capital.

Recognized locally as a poseik (decisor) on Jewish law, Rabbi Moshe Walter provides his most fortunate pulpit at the Woodside Synagogue Ahavat Torah a reliable source of Torah and halacha, both practical and theoretical.

Rabbi Walter is the author of a recently published work entitled, “The Making of a Halachic Decision: A comprehensive analysis and guide to halachic rulings” [Menucha Publishers 2013] which has become an instant classic in halachic methodology.

The learning route taken by Rabbi Walter over these years transversed the experience of having learned from some of the greatest poskim of Jewish law in our generation.

This training allowed Rabbi Walter to experience close at hand the nuances of the give and take of the various halls of learning from Yeshiva University in New York, Yeshivat Netiv Aryeh in Jerusalem, and Yeshivas Mir, also in Jerusalem. Each of these institutions served to sharpen the learning and comprehension skills of a still young rabbi and teacher, who will in time set the learning standard for the next generation of Talmudic scholars and interpreters of Jewish law.

At Yeshiva University he came under the profound influence of its roshei yeshiva, Rabbi Mordechai Willig, and Rabbi Yonason Sacks. It was from this yeshiva that Rabbi Walter received his first semicha [ordination]. In Jerusalem, at Yeshivat Netiv Aryeh, he learned under Rabbi Yoel Rakovsky, Rabbi Yishayahu Shteinberger, and the Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Aharon Bina.

Also, in Jerusalem, at the famed Yeshivas Mir, he learned both as a bachur and as a member of the kollel for many years under the esteemed and revered Gaon, HaRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, zt”l, and others. Rav Finkel had a definite personal influence on Rabbi Walter.
