Two brothers were assaulted in Brooklyn’s Mill Basin neighborhood on Yom Kippur by three men yelling anti-Semitic slurs.
The brothers, 19 and 23 years old, were walking home from the Flatbush Park Jewish Center, an Orthodox shul at 6363 Ave. U, at 3:45 pm. They were wearing yarmulkes and prayer shawls when they encountered their assailants, who were walking in the opposite direction, on East 66th Street between Avenue U and Strickland Avenue.
After the three men uttered an anti-Semitic obscenity, the older brother responded, “It’s our holiday,” the Daily News reported, quoting sources.
The older brother then touched one of the men, who responded by punching him in the face, police said, according to the News which said the trio then attacked the brothers.
The 23-year-old suffered bruised ribs and a cut in his mouth, and the 19-year-old had bruises on his eye and a cut lip, according to reports.
The attackers were described as in their 20s and white, one wearing a white T-shirt, the second a pink T-shirt, and the third a Pink Floyd T-shirt.
A Hatzolah ambulance took the older brother to New York Community Hospital, where he was treated and released, and the younger brother was treated by paramedics, the Daily News reported.
