Yom Ha’Zikaron, Yom Ha’Atzmaut combine at YIW

The Jewish nation will move from sorry to joy as the sun sets on Monday, May 1, and the day’s commemoration of Yom Ha’Zikaron (Israel’s memorial day) morphs into a celebration of Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Israel’s independence day).

The Five Towns community will mark both events at the Young Israel of Woodmere (859 Peninsula Blvd.) beginning at 7:30 pm.

The evening will include a showing of the movie, “On The Map,” which tells the against-all-odds story of the Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 1977 European championship, which took place at a time when the Middle East was still reeling from the 1973 Yom Kippur War, the 1972 Olympic massacre at Munich, and the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight from Tel Aviv.

The following shuls are sponsors of this program:

Anshai Chesed, Bais Tefilah, Congregation Beth Shalom, Beis Haknesses of North Woodmere, Congregation Beis Ephraim Yitzchok, Irving Place Minyan, Jewish Center of Atlantic Beach, Kehillas Bais Yehuda Tzvi, Ohr Torah, Young Israel of Far Rockaway, Young Israel of Hewlett Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Young Israel of North Woodmere, Young Israel of Woodmere, Shaarei Tefilah, and the White Shul.
