Trump’s wrong: I’m not sick and tired of winning

Posted

President Trump said it over and over: The country is going to win so much that we are going to be sick and tired of winning.

Last week, America received two positive jobs reports, one from ADP, the other from the Department of Labor. In between, there was a report from the Department of Homeland Security indicating that illegal immigration was way down. I know that it’s been less than two months since the inauguration and only four months since the election, but so much good has happened in that short time and I don’t even have a twinge of being sick and tired of all of the winning. What President Trump has gotten done in two months — despite the fact that Senator Chuck Schumer has denied him a full cabinet — is astounding.

The winning started before he was inaugurated, during the transition period when the president announced that about 1,000 Carrier jobs would stay in the Indiana. More corporations have followed, the latest last Monday with Exxon revealing its Growing the Gulf program, a $20 billion investment over 10 years that would create 45,000 jobs in the gulf region.

It is too early for any of those announcements to have had an effect on the job market, but the job market is growing anyway.

A labor-market survey on Wednesday provided the latest signal that job growth is strengthening along with business confidence. Payroll processor ADP said businesses added 298,000 private-sector jobs in February, significantly above the 189,000 forecast. The ADP numbers reflect non-farm private sector jobs.

On Friday, the Department of Labor released its job numbers for February, reporting that an impressive 235,000 jobs were added in January. President Trump can’t take credit for the entire increase, but the promised positive business climate undoubtedly helped.

Strong March numbers would indicate that the president’s plans for fixing the economy is improving the economy even before the bulk of it is implemented.

Not all of last week’s new was good thanks to WikiLeaks. A few weeks ago, my TV died and we replaced it with a Samsung “smart” TV. The picture happens to be great. But the latest leak from Julian Assange said the CIA had learned how to hack into Samsung TVs had me wondering if when I’m staring at my brand new TV, the TV was staring back. Then early Thursday there was more good news, with the Department of Homeland Security reporting that 23,589 people were caught trying to enter the country illegally in February — the lowest number for February in years and a 40 percent drop from the 42,504 caught in January.

DHS Secretary Kelly attributed the drop to the switch from lax enforcement of immigration laws under President Obama to the imposition of tougher consequences for illegal immigrants under Trump, who has untied the hands of border agents.

“The early results show that enforcement matters, deterrence matters, and that comprehensive immigration enforcement can make an impact,” he said.

The number of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children caught by the Border Patrol fell below 2,000, while the number of people traveling as families was just 3,124. In January, that number had been 9,300, and in December, it had been more than 16,000.

Drats! More winning. And I don’t feel sick of it, not even a twinge. What is wrong with me? I’m very happy that the president is doing what he promised and he is getting the results I thought he would get when I cast my vote for him.

As the week was wrapping up, Fox broadcast the news that Samsung is going to move manufacturing of some home appliances from Mexico to the U.S., resulting in another 500 Americans being employed. Even more winning from the Trump administration. Not only is there a feeling of happiness among businesses under President Trump there is more winning. And I fully expect the winning will continue as long as he is in the Oval Office.
