The Yeshiva basketball league season will go down to the wire in Lawrence.

The commissioner of the Metropolitan Yeshiva High School Athletic League (MYHSAL), Paul Magzamen, told The Jewish Star Tuesday that he had reached an agreement to hold the championship series –– a full day of varsity and junior varsity games –– at Lawrence High School on Sunday, March 22, 2009.

“The league wishes to thank Pat Pizzarelli, athletic director of the Lawrence schools, and his staff, for making this event possible at the Lawrence High School Gymnasium,” Magzamen said.

This will be the first time the yeshiva league championships are held at that location, he said.

The playoffs begin this week. At HAFTR, HANC and North Shore, all four teams –– Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity, and Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity –– still have a shot at the title. The HALB Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity are still in contention, as is the Girls Varsity team fielded by SKA.

Rambam and Shalhevet did not make the playoffs this year.

Supersol Catering will provide Glatt Kosher food available for purchase at the championship series, Magzamen said.
