HAFTR, at Barclays, downs Flatbush, raises FIDF cash

Posted

The HAFTR Hawks varsity basketball team and the Flatbush Falcons arranged to play in the Barclays Center last Sunday. HAFTR wanted to use the opportunity not only to capture a lifetime memory for the players — but also to do something greater for the Jewish community.

HAFTR set out to use this game to raise money for the Friends of the IDF — for every $35 ticket sold, HAFTR would donate $22 to FIDF resulting in over $10,000 raised.

The game itself didn’t disappoint. Flatbush quickly came out with a 9-0 lead before HAFTR finally got on the board with a foul shot late in the quarter. The Falcons led by as many as 11 in the second and looked as if they were going to run away with the game. But by pressing every Flatbush possession, HAFTR created turnovers and fast break baskets. The momentum changed and the Hawks found themselves up by 1 going into the fourth quarter.

HAFTR went up by 3 with 35 seconds to go in the game. The Hawks, with their stifling defense, didn’t allow a shot by the Falcons and won, 35–32.

HAFTR was led by Max Rosner 14 points, Abie Perlow 10 points 16 rebounds, and Captain Jon Greenberg 9 points.
