Young Israel posts Chanukah ire warning

The National Council of Young Israel issued the following safety reminder for Chanukah:

•Keep the menorah, oil and matches away from curtains or other flammable objects.

•Position the menorah on a sturdy table or ledge that is well out of children’s reach.

• When finishing lighting, store oil, menorah, matches and other flammable equipment in a safe storage area, preferably fireproof chest or box.

•Use caution when cooking with hot frying oil.

•Dispose of frying oil properly and not down the drain.

•Check all household fire alarms to ensure they work propertly.

•Never leave flames unattended. Consult your local rabbi on the appropriate procedure when leaving the house after lighting.
