Eighth grade boys of the Hebrew Academy of the Five Town and Rockaways enjoyed an amazing Shabbat filled will fun, inspiration and achdut.

The shabbaton began on Friday morning with an exhilarating football tournament organized by Rabbi Ari Glazer.

On Friday night, the students and their six rebbeim davened together at Far Rockaway’s White Shul for Mincha, Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma’ariv. The tefilot of shaliach tzibor Rabbi Hulkower shook the heavens. There was hearty singing and even dancing around the bima led by the mora de’atra of the shul, Rabbi Eytan Feiner.

With their hearts and souls overflowing from tefila and Torah, the students next broke up in groups and went to their rebbe’s house for the first Shabbat meal that featured delicious food, hearty zemirot and divrei Torah. The student enjoyed seeing their teachers with their families in a relaxed setting.

Then it was back to the White Shul where the boys played games with “Zezy” from the Schnitzel Guys and enjoyed a trivia challenge with Rabbi Glazer. The talmidim heard a wonderful story from the incomparable Rabbi Kirsch about the Chattam Sofer, charity and the supernatural lengths a mitzvah can reach.

On Shabbat morning, the students were walked over to Yeshiva Sh’or Yoshuv to enjoy an amazing tefila experience in the beautiful surroundings of this magnificent building. The HAFTR 8th grade boys joined the teen minyan led by Rabbi Yechiel Weberman. After kiddush, they met the Rosh Hayeshiva, Rabbi Jaeger and had the opportunity to wish a Shabbat Shalom to one of the Gedolei Yisrael, HaRav Yaakov Hillel shlita. The students then heard an inspirational speech by Rabbi Yosef Newcomb.

At seudah shniah at Beis Medrash Ateres Yisroel (Rabbi Blumenkranz’ shul) they heard Rabbi Glazer deliver an insightful d’var Torah and HAFTR menahel, Rabbi Dovid Kupchik, led the students in zemirot that lasted for more than half an hour. The excitement of the students and the wide smiles on their faces as they sang was something special.
