Beyond self at SKA

Posted

The Aseret Yemei Teshuvah took on greater meaning for the students of the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls in Hewlett Bay Park on Oct. 6, with “Beyond Yourself,” an uplifting schoolwide program encouraging sensitivity to others and careful speech.

While seniors worked on a lashon hara and speech awareness “Word Watch” created by SKAers Shani Axelrod and Leba Wilamowsky, ninth, tenth and eleventh graders created their own Code of Conduct.

All of the girls viewed videos produced by SKA Media Coordinator Jordana Mallin and attended workshops where they wrote out strategies for management of bein adom l’chavero.

Seniors also heared from faculty member Shira Manne, who shared reflections about learning Shmirat Halashon and its impact on the different arenas of her life.
